Abstract

The article is based on fieldwork conducted in Southern Siberia among Buryat and Evenki people in 2006. By comparing the strategies of risk management persons with articulated biographies (Buryat shaman and Evenki businessman) use, we investigated the general patterns of ways Evenki and Buryat people deal with the world, search or avoid risks, construct own biographies. The reversibility and linearity play important roles for Buryats. Evenki people experience the circularity in all the processes and search for multiplicity. URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs100111

Tatiana Safonova, Center for Independent Social Research

Dr. Tatiana SAFONOVA holds a PhD in sociology and works as a researcher in the Center for Independent Social Research in Saint-Petersburg. Her research interests vary from the study of the involvement of indigenous people in nature conservation to ethnographic research among Evenki people of Siberia.

István Sántha, Hungarian Academy of Science

Dr. István SÁNTHA has been conducting fieldwork among various Siberian people for 20 years. At the moment he is affiliated with the Institute for Ethnology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, where he works in the Anthropological Department. His main scientific interests are the anthropological research of shamanism and hunting.
