'In diesem Aufsatz wird ein Instrument zur differenzierten Erfassung von Kandidatenorientierungen vorgestellt, das in der Nachwahlstudie zur Bundestagswahl 1998 zum Einsatz kam. Mit Hilfe dieses Instruments wird gezeigt, daß die Wahlentscheidung bei der Bundestagswahl am 27. September 1998 nicht zuletzt auch durch die Wahrnehmung unpolitischer, persönlicher Eigenschaften der beiden Kanzlerkandidaten Helmut Kohl und Gerhard Schröder beeinflußt wurde.' 'In this article we present an instrument with which orientations towards political candidates can be measured in a differentiated manner. This Instrument has been part of the German Post Election Study 1998. Using this Instrument, it is shown that voter's choice in September 1998 was in fact influenced by the perception of nonpolitical, personal qualities of both chancellor candidates, i. e.
