"In replying to Bruno Hildenbrand’s critical understanding of the notion of structure, structuredness, structuring (and thus action) in grounded theory, it is claimed that this methodological approach – different from objective hermeneutics – draws on a pragmatist epistemology that instead of underestimating the aspect of structuredness rather develops a completely different concept of the interplay between structure and action. Therefore there is no use in seeking a middle ground between these two methodologies without prior acknowledging their profoundly different epistemological and social theoretical basis."
