Abstract

Translation of abstract (English)

Cooperation between anthropology and psychology is necessary for a deeper understanding of cultural specifics based on universal human minds. This paper describes one such cooperation in more detail, concerning the "Theory of Mind" (ToM) in the Pacific region. This theory predicts an attribution of mental states such as desires or beliefs to oneself and to others in the development of humans at the age of about 4 years. The universality of this assumption is tested by studies with children from Micronesia, Polynesia, and Papua New Guinea. The ToM paradigms from studies that were run originally in a European or American context had to be adapted carefully to local contexts. The benefits and risks of such an interdisciplinary cooperation are discussed.
