Viscosity solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equations of eikonal type on ramified spaces

Abstract

The theory of viscosity solutions due to Crandall and Lions is extended to ramified spaces such as graphs or locally elementary ramified spaces. Existence and uniqueness proofs are given. Also the method of vanishing viscosity is suitably extended and shown to produce viscosity solutions in the limit. A connection to continuum models for granular matter is established.

Die Theorie der Viskositätslösungen nach Crandall und Lions wird auf verzweigte Räume wie Graphen oder lokal elementare verzweigte Räume erweitert; Existenz- und Eindeutigkeitsbeweise werden gegeben. Ferner wird die Methode der "vanishing viscosity" passend erweitert und es wird gezeigt, dass sie im Grenzfall Viskositätslösungen liefert. Ein Zusammenhang zu Kontinuumsmodellen für granulare Medien wird hergestellt.
