Zusammenfassung

Information is dependent on the factors context, time, correctness and completeness. If these factors are fulfilled information is the basis of all strategic planning in companies. In addition to internal data sources in companies external sources get more and more numerous and cannot be neglected in the decision process. Data Warehouse offers a technical concept to build a database, which can be used for analysis, from different data sources. OLAP adds analytical functionality to this concept. With the semantic modelling of OLAP applications a standardized, binding structure of terms can be built up. The construction of this structure is led by the requirements put down by users and the structure also standardizes data formats. Moreover it lays down and documents the relationships between data sources and the Data Warehouse.

Zusammenfassung in einer weiteren Sprache

Die handlungsrelevante, zeitpunktbezogene, korrekte und vollständige Information ist eine entscheidende Grundlage insbesondere in der strategischen Unternehmensplanung. Neben unternehmensinternen Datenquellen werden unternehmensexterne Datenquellen immer vielfältiger und können im Entscheidungsprozeß nicht unberücksichtigt bleiben. Data Warehouse stellt das technische Konzept, um aus so vielfältigen Datenquellen und -beständen eine Analysegerechten Datenbasis zu schaffen. OLAP ergänzt das Data Warehouse um die Analytische Funktionalität. Mit der semantischen Modellierung von OLAP-Anwendungen wird eine einheitliche und verbindliche Begriffsstruktur, ausgehend von Analyseanforderungen aufgebaut, die Datenformate vereinheitlicht. Damit wird die Beziehung zwischen Datenquellen und Data Warehouse festgelegt und dokumentiert.
