The scope of the thesis is the spectroscopic characterization of two-component multiferroic systems using XANES (X-ray absorption near edge structure) and XMCD (X-ray magnetic circular dichroism). Both methods are suitable for the investigation of the electronic and magnetic properties of a absorber embedded in a crystalline structure. The XANES and the XMCD are calculated with the use of the IPA (independent particle approximation) of the X-ray absorption. In this case the spectra are calculated using the multiple scattering formalism of Korringa, Kohn and Rostoker in framework of the density functional theory. The preliminary calculations of absoption spectra are made for BaTiO3 bulk and freestanding iron layers. Afterwards the X-ray absorption spectra for the multiferroic heterostructures Fe/BTO and Co/BTO are calculated. It is shown that the XMCD obtains characteristic finestructures which occur from the influence of the surface and the interface. Beside anisotropic effects for the system Fe/BTO are investigated. Also the interaction between electron and core hole has been probed in a first approximation for iron bulk using time-dependent density functional theory and linear response theory.
