Plant-derived natural products have been a cornerstone of modern drug discovery for centuries due to their complex and unique structure. Many lead structures for tumor therapy are also derived from natural products. However, these natural products, such as boswellic acid, are sometimes difficult to access. In this work, a strategy for the partial synthesis of boswellic acid starting from gypsogenin as well as hederagenin was developed. Furthermore, rhodamine B derivatives stand out as very potent mitocanes - these act against tumor cells and have attracted research interest in recent years. Therefore, simple morpholine-derived as well as steroid-derived rhodamine B derivatives were prepared and investigated for their cytotoxic properties. It was shown that these derivatives exhibit good cytotoxic properties against tumor cells.
