Augmented Reality in der Produktentstehung

AbstractAugmented Reality Systems (AR) increasingly gain importance in research and development by condensing and providing relevant information. The constantly increasing number of AR components enables compiling of a large number of AR system configurations for use, with personal experience and existing technology being an important factor. Based on the theory that AR systems can be systemised in a unit of task - function - technique an approach was developed to create task optimising AR systems. Considering the currently available technol-ogy and using a matrix of variables the theoretically possible potential of augmented reality in research and development was assessed for possible system configurations. This approach was tested on 2 different solutions in the construction of tools and mould mak-ing. The department of construction of tools and mould making was deliberately chosen as AR application had previously not been investigated in this sector and therefore new knowledge for the assignment of this technology in research and development could be gained. Based on an analysis of production faults in construction of tools and mould making two concrete applications were formulated and the relevant function was tested in two-demonstration implementation. The value of these implementations is calculated based upon the potential saving of the fault prognosis and the subsequent avoidance of faults. At the same time a system of great potential for direct use on machine tools was tested with the laser projection system and a process for calibration was introduced. It has been shown that AR solutions are meaningful when complex processes and procedures have to be examined, where a large number of components are utilised, diversity of positions and/ or diversity of variants exists and a potential saving against the expense of the acquisition and the operation of the AR solutions can be achieved. The potential saving in research and development consists mainly in the reduction of the degree of abstraction in the collation of information. The contextual representation of the information combined with the filtration of information reduces the amount of information to only that considered essential to the task and the end user can understand and appraise the information better. The above work is a contribution to the concrete approach of the formulation of task-specific AR solutions.
