Abstract:

Implantierter Kohlenstoff bzw. Stickstoff reicht in eine Tiefe von 400 bzw. 500 nm, Gold bis 100 nm. Die Maximalkonzentration von Kohlenstoff bzw. Stickstoff betraegt etwa 55 At.% bzw. 45 At.%.

In the present work the influence of the ion-implantation are examined for the electrochemical behaviour of biocompatible titanium alloys (Ti-6Al-7Nb, Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta,Ti-35Zr-10Nb and Ti-45Nb) during potentiodynamic anodic polarisization in 0,15 M chloride solution (Ringer solution). The corrosive wear behaviour during polarisization are determined by sliding against a PMMA pin during the wear test. The microstructure, the phase formation and the depth distribution of the implanted ions are analysed and examined for the surface properties to their effect. Carbon, nitrogen and gold are implanted under conditions which let expect a positive influence on the corrosion and wear behaviour. The non-metals are implanted with energy at 120 and 130 keV as well as 60 keV with entire doses from 3 and 5x1017cm-2. At gold an entire dose is chosen by 1x1016cm-2 with a energy from 150 keV. Analytical investigations are carried out with X-ray diffraction at grazing incidence, high energy backscattering spectrometry and x-ray photoelectron spectrometry. With Ti-6Al-7Nb or Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta is a a+b duplex-microstructure or a finely laminated microstructure with a hardness of approx. 3,6 or 2,6 GPa. Ti-35Zr-10Nb shows a martensitic microstructure with a hardness of 2,2 GPa. Ti-45Nb has a globular microstructure with a hardness of 1,45 GPa. Not implanted alloys are covered with an oxide film 3 to 4 nm thick. The oxide film consists of different oxides of the alloying elements. The oxide film thickness increases by implantation of carbon and nitrogen. The depth distribution and concentration of the implanted elements is alloy-independent. After implantation of nitrogen and carbon the thickness of the implanted layers is 400 to 500 nm, gold to 100 nm. The maximum concentration of nonmetal is at a depth of 180 nm with 45 At.% to 55 At.%. The enriched area of oxygen concentrated it reaches with not implanted alloys into a depth of 50 nm. The oxygen content in the near surface region increases with the implantation process. Implantation of carbon and nitrogen leads to the formation of compound from TiC und TiN and stabilized the a-Ti phase, the formation of intermetallic stages after gold-implantation is not observed. In all implantation layer there are a-Titan and b-Titan. Nitrogen-implantation with the employed conditions leads for the formation from gas bubbles. Surface damage does not occur after carbon and gold-implantation. Not implanted alloys stay in the case of anodic polarization passive in Ringer solution. The enrichment of implanted carbon and nitrogen starts at the surface and leads to a modification of the rest potentials into positive direction as well as to a decrease of the current density. The breakdown potential is dependent on the implanted ion and the alloy composition. Pitting corrosion occurs after implantation of carbon. Implantation of nitrogen leads to the pitting in the case of aluminium-containing alloys, aluminium-free alloys stay passiv. After gold-implantation all alloys stay passiv. After carbon and nitrogen-implantation many small corrosion punctures form themselves at Ti-6Al-7Nb above the breakdown potential. In case of carbon implanted zirconium-containing alloys ring-similar corrosion punctures appear. At Ti-45Nb the b- grains are dissolved on the entire surface. Friction leads to a decrease of the breakdown potential in case of carbon implanted alloys. Nitrogen implanted tests which are passive without friction stay passive also under friction. Carbon and nitrogen implantation increases the microhardness, and the wear permanence is raised significantly. No scratches are formed during wear test with anodic polarisization. After gold- implantation no essential change of the wear behaviour shows.
