Abstract

Die hier vorgelegte monographische Studie legt Ergebnisse aus dem kunsthistorischen DFG-Sachmittelprojekt (Projektnummer 346774044) „Der Wandmalereizyklus zu den Wissenschaften und Künsten in der Brandenburger Domklausur. Kunstproduktion und Wissensorganisation um 1450“ der Universität Paderborn vor. Die Zielsetzung dieses Projekts besteht darin, die bislang ausstehende systematische und grundlegende kunsthistorische Bearbeitung der erst 2001/05 wiederentdeckten und freigelegten Wandmalerei im Bibliothekstrakt der spätmittelalterlichen Klausur am Dom in Brandenburg an der Havel in seinem räumlichen und geistigen Umfeld darzustellen. Im Hinblick darauf gibt die Buchpublikation einen Querschnitt der Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Kunstgeschichte und der Epigraphik in diesem Forschungsprojekt und erläutert wesentliche Aspekte der Quellenkunde, des Bildprogramms und des architektonischen Umfelds. Die kunsthistorische und geistesgeschichtliche Bedeutung des Monuments als frühes Beispiel einer vollständig ausgemalten Studienbibliothek „modernen“ Zuschnitts, deren Datierung auf ca. 1445 bzw. kurz vor 1445 angesetzt werden kann, wird unterstrichen.

Translation of abstract (English)

The monographic study presents research results from the art historical DFG funded project "The Wall Painting Cycle on the Sciences and Arts in the Brandenburg Cathedral Cloister. Art Production and Organisation of Knowledge around 1450" (project number 346774044) based at the University of Paderborn. The objective of the project is the hitherto outstanding systematic and fundamental art historical exploration of the wall painting in the library wing of the late medieval cathedral cloister in Brandenburg an der Havel – discovered and uncovered only in 2001/05 – in its spatial and intellectual environment. With respect to this goal, the book provides a cross-section of the fruitful intra-project collaboration between art history and epigraphy and explains essential aspects of source studies, the pictorial program and the architectural context. It further underlines the importance of the monument in art and intellectual history as an early example of a fully painted study library of "modern" design, the dating of which can be placed at ca. 1445 or shortly before 1445.
